Charles Peebles Hitch, age 64, living in Paris, Edgar County, Illinois in January 1915 applies for membership in Sons of American Revolution under John George’s military service record.
Charles Peebles Hitch is our great-grandmother, Anna Clara (Hitch) Irwin’s uncle (brother of John Wesley Hitch).
Charles Peebles Hitch age 64 , living in Paris, Edgar County, Illinois in January 1915 applies for membership in Sons of American Revolution. Charles states that he was born in Bantam, Clermont County, Ohio on 16 January 1850.
Charles was the son of Benjamin Franklin Hitch born 1818 and died 1898 and his wife Laura Ann White born 1820 and married 1838 and was living when this application was submitted.
Charles is the grandson of Firman White born 1792 and died 1868 and his wife Mary Ann Rogers died 1899 and they were married 1879.
Charles is the great-grandson of Dr. Levi Rogers died 1814 and his wife Ann George born 1776.
Charles is the great-great-grandson of John George and his wife Sarah Perry (Scerry).
John George the our ancestor who assisted in establishing American Independence, while acting in the capacity of Private and Sergeant.

John George and Sarah Perry New Jersey, Marriage Records, 1683-1802 - Volume XXII, Marriage Records 1665-1800 page 295
John George is our Revolutionary War Veteran on Great-Grandma, Anna Clara (Hitch) Irwin side of the family. John George and Sarah Perry were married December 31, 1772 in Burlington County, New Jersey.
Interesting Note: You will notice that John George was married to Sarah Durell on March 2, 1765 – seven years before his marriage to Sarah Perry. I wonder if this is the same John George or if Sarah Durell died sometime before 1772.
I have included the first portion of the book because the customs and laws regarding marriage where very interesting. You will find John George marriage on the last page of this blog posting.
