James Baxter’s family in 1850 U.S. Federal Census, Deerfield Township, Warren County, Ohio includes Mary (2nd wife), William R. (son), Martha (Harper) (daughter in-law), Margaret (daughter), and Nicholas Cummings age 10 (relationship unknown). Sarah Harper may married at Sycamore United Presbyterian Church or Associate Reformed Presbyterian in Symmes Township, Hamilton County, Ohio

Margaret (Baxter) Harper is mentioned in her father, James Baxter’s will living at 16 Mile Stand, Ohio in 1886. Margaret married James H. Harper and they lived on his share of his father, James Harper’s estate that was willed to him in 1839.  Looking at the U.S. Federal Census for Symmes Township, Hamilton County, Ohio there is no mention of 16 Mile Stand except in 1860 U.S. Federal Census for Symmes Township which names Catherine, James, and Agnes all lived together on 16 Mile Stand in Symmes Township, Hamilton County, Ohio.  The 1880 and 1870 U.S. Census do not state the 16 Mile Stand, just Symmes Township but 1860 Census does. 

 

Symmes Township, Hamilton County, Ohio stated there was Associate Reformed Presbyterian congregation founded in 1795 at 16 Mile Stand (I think the Irwin's were Presbyterian but not for sure) then in 1848 the Sycamore United Presbyterian Church was built.  It  is my guess that Sarah and William Irwin got  married at one of these churches. 

 

Sarah Harper’s older sister, Martha Harper who married William R. Baxter also might have married at one of these church too.

 

Martha and William R. Baxter lived next door to William and Sarah Harper in Deerfield Township, Warren County, Ohio (or I should say, that Martha and William R. Baxter lived with father, James Baxter and his family when they first got married in 1850 - they show up in the 1850 U.S. Federal Census for Deerfield Township, Warren County, Ohio. You have to look at both pages of the Census to pick up James Baxter’s complete family, Mary (2nd wife), William R. (son), Martha (daughter in-law), Margaret (daughter), and  Nicholas Cummings age 10 (relationship unknown).

The Associate Reformed Presbyterians congregation was founded in 1795. They settled along Montgomery Road at Sixteen-Mile Stand. Their church, Sycamore United Presbyterian Church, built in 1848, still remains. In 1802, Nathaniel Terwilliger drew up the village plat for nearby Montgomery. Located at the intersection of Shawnee and Miami Indian trails that ran North/South and East/West, the village quickly became a major stage coach route. In 1816, with the capital of Ohio established in Columbus, Montgomery Road became the State road from Cincinnati to Columbus, and Montgomery Road became a major stage coach stop. The name Sixteen-Mile Stand results from the use of Montgomery Road as a stage coach route. It was literally a stage coach stopping point, or stand, sixteen miles from Cincinnati. This route eventually became known as the 3 C Highway and connected Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland.

In 1850 we find Andrew Baxter, age 16 living with George Baxter (maybe George is his uncle). Andrew’s wife is Louisa Baxter, born 1834 in Ohio. Andrew and Louisa Baxter and their daughter, Susan J. Baxter, age 5 live next door to John Baxter in 1860. In 1870 U.S. Federal Census for Deerfield Township, Warren County, Ohio John Baxter is living with Andrew, Louisa and Susan J. Baxter.
