The Alta Heiser Collection Index Vol. 4, January 1, 1948 & December 26, 1951. Nancy Ramsey Sutherland was deserving of her husband’s devotion. Her sister Mary Ramsey married Archibald Irwin. Their daughters Jane and Elizabeth Irwin married sons of General William Henry and Anna Symmes Harrison. Through the Irwins, there were relationships with the Smiths, Findlays, Torrences and other prominent Cincinnatians who spoke of John Sutherland as their Scotch cousin. William Irwin, a brother of Archibald Irwin wrote to Cincinnati relatives about moving to Ohio from Pennsylvania and asked about bringing along slaves. His wife was a sister of James Smith, father of C.K. Smith. Whatever may have caused the Irwins to come to Hamilton instead of Cincinnati, they were here in 1819. William Irwin and Mr. John Sutherland formed a partnership in the tanneries near the West End of the new covered bridge. However, the Irwins soon moved to Oxford, Butler County, Ohio.

The Alta Heiser Collection Index Vol. 5, January 2, 1952 & December 29, 1955. William Henry and Anna Harrison of Butler County, Ohio, third child, William Harrison was in Lexington, Kentucky at Transylvania College. It may be surmised that his discontent while in Lexington was due to the fact that Jane Irwin was in Cincinnati, Ohio. His father, William Henry Harrison wished him to continue at Transylvania College, but he soon was back studying law in Cincinnati. William Harrison began drinking too hard. Dr. Benjamin Harrison had contracted the same habit. William and Jane Irwin were married and living in Cincinnati, where Jane was very happy. Her husband, William Harrison habits made it seem best that they come to the country, where they were given a farm “across the creek” from The Cabin, home of William’s parents William Henry and Anna Harrison. William Henry Harrison was grieved by William’s weakness. William Henry Harrison only loyal son, Scott Harrison and built him a fine home at The Point. After the death of his first wife, Scott Harrison married a sister of his brother, William’s wife, Elizabeth Irwin. The first few of their children were born at The Cabin, one of these was Benjamin Harrison, destined to be the President of United States, as had been his illustrious grandfather.
