ObitMessenger–Get timely, customized obituary news delivered directly to your email inbox
So that you can find the information you need as quickly as possible, this page includes answers to the most common questions about ObitMessenger™. We recommend that you check the following links for help before contacting Legacy.com. While our customer service team responds to e-mails very quickly (within 1 business day), you may find your answer even faster by checking below.
What is ObitMessenger™? ObitMessenger™ is a free e-mail notification service that uses keywords provided by you to locate new obituaries. If an obituary matching any of your keywords is found, a portion of the obituary with a link to access the full notice will be e-mailed to you at the e-mail address you supply during sign up.
What obituaries does ObitMessenger™ search? ObitMessenger™ searches the paid obituaries and death notices published online by Legacy.com's more than 800 ObitMessenger™ newspaper affiliates. You can search a single source or the entire network of newspapers. Depending on each newspaper's policy, this may or may not include every obituary or death notice published in the newspaper. For a detailed list of our ObitMessenger™ newspaper affiliates, please click here.
When will e-mail alerts be sent? You can choose to be notified once a day or once a week. If you choose once a day, you will receive your first e-mail alert on the first day a paid online obituary from the newspaper(s) you’ve selected matches any of your search terms.
What will the e-mail alert include? E-mail alerts will contain a portion of the obituary (with your search terms highlighted) plus a link to the full obituary on the newspaper's website, where you can access the Guest Book, find directions to services, send flowers and more.
How will I know ObitMessenger™ is working? You will receive daily or weekly e-mail alerts when ObitMessenger™ finds new obituaries matching your search terms. If there have been no matches for your search terms in a 14-day period, you will receive an e-mail notifying you.
What if I have another question? If you have a question that is not addressed on this page, please send us an e-mail. Our staff will be happy to assist you. We generally respond to all inquiries within one business day.
Examples of keywords that are not allowed include using a single letter of the alphabet, or common words like "died" or "funeral." Enormous resources would be needed to complete these search requests, causing the ObitMessenger™ process to slow down for all subscribers. Additionally, the size of such an e-mail would place an enormous strain on our mail server, again resulting in a decreased user experience.
Why are there no matches for my keywords? If you receive an e-mail notifying you that there have been no matches for your search, please log in to your account and review your search terms. Here are a few common reasons why a search returns no matches:
Misspelled keyword(s) Check spelling carefully. Because ObitMessenger™ looks for your keywords exactly as you enter them, any spelling difference could prevent you from receiving the results you want.
Alternate spellings or abbreviations When selecting keywords, consider common abbreviations and alternate spellings. For example, entering "Mountain Springs" as a keyword would not locate an obituary where the phrase appeared as "Mtn. Springs."
