Note: According to the author: The American Irvines (Irwins) were descended from the ancient house of Bonshow and were among the many families who on coming to America settled first in Pennsylvania, and from there went to the Virginia Valley. They served as soldiers in the French and Indian Wars, also in the Revolution.

    Our Irwin family may have come from Northern Ireland according to this author.
